How to Steer Clear of Sugar

Staying away from sugar means you’ll have to stay away from sweets and sugar-loaded drinks. And yes, the list includes soda. Most of the soda brands you can find in the market are full of sugar which can lead to inflammation, weight gain, and diabetes. Chugging down soda cans every day is dangerous due to the high amount of sugar that can ruin your health.

On the other hand, you can consume sugar from natural sources. Fruits contain natural sugars which are great for our metabolism and can help prevent all the health problems associated with sugar.

What About Artificial Sweeteners?

You’ve probably heard everything about those sugar alternatives such as Aspartame or Splenda. Although sugar can be replaced with some of these alternatives, most are just as harmful if not more. As a matter of fact, Aspartame has been linked to a variety of serious health problems including cancer, so it’s best to stay away from it.

If you absolutely can’t live without sugar, you’re allowed to replace it with honey, molasses, maple syrup or natural fruit juice in your foods and drinks.

Recovering from Sugar Addiction

Withdrawing from sugar is a slow and difficult process that will most likely be painful. Symptoms such as headaches, anxiety, fatigue, dizziness, and insomnia are to be expected for at least a few weeks. It will take months before your body is clean of sugar. For best results, experts also recommend regular exercise and eating a healthy diet. Drinking plenty of water goes without question.

In order to lose weight fast when recovering from too much sugar, you should add protein and fiber in your diet. Both will keep you full for a longer period as they’re digested slower than the usual.

Smoothies are a great idea as well. Just experiment with fruits and veggies to find a combination that suits you the most. Chromium-rich foods have also been known to help with the recovery. To add the mineral to your diet, eat more beef and turkey meat, broccoli, shellfish, garlic, and grapes as well.  

Stick to a healthy diet, stay hydrated, exercise regularly, and avoid anything sweet – that’s the key to getting rid of the awful effects of sugar.
