Can Cabbage Really Reduce Joint Pain?
Cabbage, the healthy veggie we commonly eat during the winter, is super beneficial for our health. Apart from being loaded with vitamin C, cabbage is full of other essential nutrients that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Cabbage is full of minerals such as iron and potassium, which, along with all the other vitamins and minerals, is why it has been a part of folk medicine for such a long time.
In the past, people have used cabbage to detoxify the liver and purify their blood, but also to reduce joint pain. A powerful anti-inflammatory vegetable, cabbage can relieve your joint pain and also treat a variety of skin problems. Thanks to the high level of vitamin C in the veggie, it can slow down the aging process and protect your cells from damage. The rich content of fiber, on the other hand, will boost your digestion better than anything else.
Are All Cabbages the Same?
No, they’re not. There are actually different types of cabbage and each one is unique on its own. Green cabbage, for example, is great for soups, stews, and salads thanks to the rich vitamin and mineral content. Red cabbages have a stronger taste but the same (with tiny differences) nutritional profile.
Bok choy and Savoy cabbage are much more common in Asia and usually used to wrap different fillings. When it comes to their nutritional profile, they’re not that different from green or red cabbage.
As we already mentioned, cabbage was used as a folk remedy for joint pain in Europe a long time ago.
Take a medium-sized cabbage and take off the top layer of leaves. Wash them well and remove the stem. Now, take a rolling pin and press the leaves with even pressure so you can get their juice out. Next, wrap the leaves in aluminum foil and put them in a warmed-up oven. You only need to warm them up for like 5 minutes or so – they don’t need to be blazing hot.
Once you’re done, unwrap the foil and wrap the cabbage leaf on the painful area. Do this 2-3 times per day and your joint pain should subside soon.
