As you’re surely aware, sleeping is one of the most important aspects of our wellbeing. While we sleep, all the tissues and organs in our body heal and regenerate, and there are important biological reactions taking place as well. Our cells are restored and many compounds get synthesized which helps us wake up re-energized and able to function the next day.
Of course, this only goes for proper sleeping times. We need between 6 and 8 hours of sleep for the body to “recharge”, which most of us rarely get. Sleep deprivation is a common problem in today’s society and is far more harmful than everyone thinks.
In fact, it has been associated with:
- heart problems
- high blood pressure
- premature aging
- and other chronic diseases as well
And, although we all thought that there’s no difference in how sleep affects both genders, a recent study showed that we’ve been wrong.
Do Women Need to Sleep More?
Due to the different biological nature, women and men have different sleeping requirements. While man can function with less than 8 hours of sleep, women shouldn’t settle for anything less. This is because they have higher brain activity, so they need the extra time.
Getting proper sleep will not only improve your health – it will improve your appearance as well. This is what women know as beauty sleep. Sleeping for at least 8 hours or a bit more every night will keep your skin looking young and elastic while also keeping your health in perfect check. So, if your partner tells you it’s just a myth, not you can throw this scientific fact in his face.
By sleeping at least 8 hours overnight your memory will function much better, your heart will be healthier, you’ll be calmer, and your immune system will be stronger. Proper sleep will help you stay focused and lowers the risk of several diseases such as diabetes, so do yourself a favor and start sleeping more.
