Body odor – we’re sure that nothing pleasant comes to mind when you read or hear these words. No matter how gross you consider body odor, it can tell you more about your health than you think. Body odor can be described as toxic smell caused by fermentation or putrefaction process in the body caused by the consumption of animal produces and refined foods. No, body odor isn’t caused by sweat – it’s a common misconception. Sweat is actually odorless, so there’s no way it could cause body odor.
Just like everywhere on our body, there are bacteria in our groins and armpits. Once they come in contact with sweat, they trigger a chemical reaction which causes body odor. Depending on what you “feed” the bacteria on your body, it will cause a pleasant or unpleasant odor. If you’re constantly stuffing yourself with toxic products, you can expect to be stinky. If your sweat is perspiring minerals and healthy metabolic matter, it won’t be stinky at all. Of course, personal hygiene does play a big part in how your body smells. If you don’t bathe often, you will surely stink a lot.
Body odor doesn’t always stink of sweat. It depends on the person. People suffering from kidney disease smell of bleach, while those suffering from diabetes emanate mild fruity odor. In rare cases, people can smell like fish if they suffer from a rare genetic condition known as trimethylaminuria.
Body odor depends on our gender as well. Due to the high levels of Sulphur, women have a body odor that smells like onion, while men produce a cheesy smell due to the high levels of fatty acids in their body.
Apart from being an indicator of various medical conditions, body odor is also a psychological problem. Excessive sweating is easily detected by people and considered a bad thing, even if the person doesn’t stink.
How to Prevent Body Odor
Using antiperspirants and deodorants seems to be the most popular way of preventing body odor. However, it only “masks” the problem and doesn’t resolve the underlying problems. Additionally, all those products we use are full of aluminum and other harmful substances which can cause additional problems.
The good news is that there are many things you can do to prevent body odor. Taking probiotics and chlorella supplements seem to work great since both eliminate odor and regulate the body’s digestive processes.
Changing your diet works as well. As we already mentioned, what you eat has a profound impact on your body smell. Stick to veggies and a healthy diet and you shouldn’t smell bad at all.
Instead of deodorants, you can start using lemon juice. Yes, we know it sounds unnatural, but it works. Taste its acidity first. If the lemon juice is too acidic, it might burn your skin. In that case, find one with a mellower taste. Simply rub fresh lemon juice on your armpits and it’ll eliminate all the bacteria that make your sweat smell bad.
Baking soda is another great option. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, so rubbing a bit on your armpits should prevent body odor.
