When the winter period starts, the flu as well as different colds are something that is inevitable. Imagine it is the season of holidays and you want to spend cozy time with your friends as well as family, but you can’t do that because of this kind of a health problem.
You probably think that if you don’t have a fever, sweat or have to take some medicine, you’re OK and you can go anywhere. But, according to experts that’s where you’re wrong.
The symptoms of flu or cold can last from 1 week to 10 days. You are contagious even 1 day before the symptoms appear. There are cases where people have been contagious even 2 weeks after the symptoms started.
This means that even though you feel better, you aren’t getting better. You’re even spreading germs everywhere!
No one desires having holidays spent in bed. Doctors advise that in the case of flu or cold, it would be the best not to hang out with people 5 or 7 days after the symptoms have started. If you don’t go to work, wait at least 24 hours that you’re free of fever. In case you have a bad cough or you sneeze all the time, you’d better stay at home. You may use medicines which lower the temperature like ibuprofen or acetaminophen, but you’d still be contagious.
In case you have to show up somewhere, make sure you’re using tissues so that you can cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Never sneeze or cough in your hand!
It’s extremely important to maintain proper hygiene e.g. wash your hands frequently, especially if you touch your mouth, nose or eyes. Were you aware that when you cough or sneeze while you’re ill, your virus is sent even 6 feet away!
In case you find yourself in someone’s company and you start to cough and sneeze the following morning, try to take 2 or 3 days off, until the symptoms pass. It might be someone from the previous week that was ill. Think about that.
