Everyone wants to have their own personal cup of coffee when they press a button. It’s ready in a second. People love having Keurig machines everywhere: at the doctor’s, in their workplace etc. They even love having them at home! The Keurig cups can be found in numerous flavors. There are even organic K cups!
But, have you ever wondered if the coffee in those cups is fresh? It may contain various toxins that you’re drinking right away. What kind of chemicals can this K cup contain? Does it contain any filter?
Our post is about the inside of a Keurig cup!
Is Your Keurig Full Of Bacteria and Mold?
In the instructions for your home Keurig brewer, it says that as soon as you empty the water which is inside, you can’t drain the internal tank of the brewer. Do you know how much bacteria it could actually gather? There are also biofilms which stick to the surface.
The Keurig contains an internal tank as well as a rubber tubing which can’t be drained. It is an excellent environment for the development of mold and bacteria. It is warm, dark and full of water. The black rubber ring which is on the bottom is also a magnet for the mold. You need to take a look at it! If it contains black or green slime, it’s biofilm! It only develops in dark places that are moist, just like molds do.
And if you thought that your water is hot enough to destroy the bacteria, microbes and mold in your Keurig system, you’re very wrong! It first needs to be boiling and stay like that for 1 minute. Another thing you should make sure is OK is your coffee mug at work. You should always keep it clean using water and some dish soap because according to various research, numerous coffee mugs that you keep at work are contaminated with fecal bacteria!
Luckily, you can clean the Keurig system with several cycles of diluted vinegar in the inside of the tank, but it doesn’t guarantee that it won’t have a moldy aroma!
Plastic K Cups Conundrum
The Plastic – The cup itself made of composite plastic. It should be BPA-free, but the chemicals that this plastic contains are with an estrogenic activity. It means that you have fake estrogens in your cup of coffee! It could even be worse if you add soy milk in it!
You Can’t Recycle The Cups– This is an environmental problem since it poses an immense threat!
