If you ever get the chance, wouldn’t you grow your own produce indoors? Many flat owners would love to be able to grow their own fresh produce. However, since veggies need gardens to grow and a lot of space, they’re unable to do so. Well, at least they couldn’t until now. Thanks to Swedish furniture giant IKEA, you can grow your own produce indoors anywhere on Earth.
IKEA has recently released a gardening kit with special sets that allow successful growth of plants. It requires minimal interaction from yourself and is the thing we’ve been waiting for years. It uses absorbent foam plugs that keep seeds moist and a special watering system that prevents over-watering. Once germinated, you have separate small pots for each of the plugs. They are filled with pumice stones (included in the kit) that ensure proper water retention. In the end, the pots are transferred to a growing tray with a solar lamp that mimics sunlight and keeps the plants growing.
The system is so efficient that you can use it in areas or rooms with no sunlight at all. However, IKEA still recommends placing the kit on a windowsill for proper sunlight exposure and better results. The system, called KRYDDA/VAXER series, comes in different shapes and sizes. The standard unit comes with all the equipment you need to get started. Apart from the starter kit (VAXER series), you can pay more for more advanced versions of the system that add special equipment to the box.
Don’t worry – the system is quite affordable and gives you everything you need to cultivate plants in almost no space. It’s quite a departure from IKEA’s furniture catalog nor does it follow the company’s retail business model. It does, however, follow IKEA’s eco-friendly trend, being built from recycled materials.
We can only thank the Swedish innovators for it.
