What is Reflexology?
Have you heard of reflexology? This ancient Chinese therapy (also known as zone therapy) is a form of alternative medicine that relies on applying pressure on certain points of the body in order to relieve medical conditions. Although still considered fringe science, reflexology has been used for millennia, with even medicine starting to accept its benefits.
Reflexology claims that the body is separated into certain zones with “points” that can be influenced in order to relieve certain conditions and disorders. Apart from “treating” various disorders, reflexology can also be used as a detox method. Cleaning the body of toxins has become a necessity in today’s society. We’re constantly exposed to air pollution and we eat junk food that is poisoning our bodies, so a detox every now and then is important for our overall health.
Reflexology practitioners claim that detox is best done through our feet. This body part has a whole network of nerve endings which can easily get clogged and cause problems. A natural foot detox can restore your hormonal and pH balance, improve your heart health and immune system, reduce stress and destroy a variety of bacteria as well.
There are many ways to detox your body through the feet, and we’ve picked the most effective for you.
Ionic Foot Bath
The ionic foot bath is one of the most popular detox methods right now. It’s highly effective as well – the process of ionization can neutralize toxins and heavy metals and pull them out of your body through the feet easily. There are two ionic foot baths you can try – clay and salt detox recipes.
- A cup of sea salt
- A cup of Epsom salt
- Two cups baking soda
First, pour water in a bigger pot and boil it, then add the salts slowly. Next, fill your tub with hot water, then add a cup of ACV and the salt mixture you’ve previously prepared. The final step is to soak your feet in the tub for half an hour. This powerful salt bath will raise your magnesium levels and pull all the toxins out of your body while also relieving skin irritations. It’s simple to prepare and ideal for beginners.
- Half a cup bentonite clay
- Half a cup Epsom salt
Fill a tub with warm water and add the Epsom salts inside. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil in as well – we recommend lavender or lemon essential oil. In the end, add the bentonite clay and stir it in the water with a wooden spoon. Take a 30-minute soak, then rinse your feet with lukewarm water.
This oxygen detox recipe is a bit different from the ionic foot baths. Instead of relying on ionization, it relies on oxygenation in order to extract toxins and heavy metals from the body.
Here’s a recipe you should try:
- Two cups hydrogen peroxide
- A tablespoon of ginger powder
Pour hot water in a tub, add everything inside, stir for a minute, then relax and soak your feet in for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water in the end and wipe your feet with a dry towel, then put on cotton socks and rest.
Foot Detox Pads
Alternatively, you can use foot detox pads in order to clean your body. You can find them in any health store and they are pretty cheap and easy to use as well. All you have to do is apply them on your feet before going to bed and sleep tight. In the morning, you’ll notice that they’re dark from all the toxins they’ve extracted. Wash your feet and put on cotton socks, and repeat the process every night for best results.
