We’ve all heard or read some speculations about diet soda. It isn’t actually a very healthy drink, even though it’s labeled as ‘diet’.
Researchers claim that people should avoid it like they avoid the regular soda which we know as sweetened. According to Susan E. Swithers, PhD, a behavioral neuroscientist and a professor of psychological sciences at Purdue we need to warn people about the side-effects of this drink.
Unfortunately, the research discovered that this soda is full of saccharin, sucralose and aspartame. Many advertisements promote these sodas when they’re actually very dangerous. Everyone should try and limit their consumption since they can be very dangerous for our health.
When we ingest artificial sweeteners, our body becomes confused and can’t manage the calories. People who ingest too much artificial sweeteners are at an increased risk of many diseases as well as metabolic syndrome.
Here Are Some Health Issues That The Consumption Of Diet Soda Can Cause:
If you drink more than 4 cans of soda every day, you’ll increase the risk of developing depression in 30%. People who drink diet soda are with a greater risk! 4 cups of coffee every day can help you decrease depression in 10%, so you’d better consider drinking coffee better than soda!
Our kidney function becomes decreased in 30% if you drink diet soda for a long period of time. There was a particular study which examined this on people who drank diet soda for more than 20 years.
Metabolic Syndrome & Type 2 Diabetes
There was a study from 2009 which proved that people who drank diet soda were with a 67% of increased risk of type 2 diabetes and a 36% increased risk of metabolic syndrome.
The artificial sweeteners it contains can also confuse our connection between the brain and the gut. It can cause metabolic derangements because diet soda can change the gut microbes. People can even become glucose intolerant!
According to a research performed for more than 10 years, diet soda can make people suffer from heart attack or stroke if they consume it for more than 10 years. Any cardiovascular problem is possible.
Consuming too much diet soda can make a person develop COPD symptoms or asthma. The risk is increased with the amount of drinking soda.
A Less Protected Brain
Diet sodas are abundant in aspartame which is a very common artificial sweetener. It can mix with our brain and cause an imbalance in the status of antioxidants.
Aspartame can also cause:
- weight gain
- migraines & headaches
- brain tumors
- multiple sclerosis
- short term memory loss
- arthritis (including rheumatoid)
- hearing loss
- chronic fatigue syndrome
- Alzheimer’s disease
- chemical sensitivities
- birth defects
Don’t think that diet soda is healthier because it’s labeled that way, because it’s not. It won’t help you lose weight. It will only cause heart disease, weight gain, metabolic damage, and many other health problems.
In case you want to drink something fizzy, why won’t you try something natural like kombucha, for example?
