Nearly two years ago, a cat no one would touch went viral online when he was finally adopted. The heartbreaking story was everywhere online and Valentino the cat became almost a celebrity.
For those of you who don’t know his story, Valentino was a disease-ridden cat crying out for help and human touch. He was suffering from numerous diseases, with sarcoptic mange on top. His fur was riddled with grime and he was in obvious need of help. At the time, Valentino was living at the Baldwin Park animal shelter and was always overlooked in favor of other cats. That is until Elaine Seamans passed by his cage.
Elaine passed by the poor cat’s cage and heard his faint meow for help. Valentino reached out with a tiny paw, obviously screaming for help on the inside. Elaine did something no one did before – she picked Valentino without gloves. She knew the cat needed immediate help and decided to do something about it. As soon as he was in her hands, Valentino rested his head on her shoulder.
Elaine contacted Leave No Paws Behind and the kitten was immediately transported to a vet. The diagnosis was not good – Valentino was dehydrated, had low glucose levels, sarcoptic mange and a slew of other problems. Luckily, everything was treatable. Valentino’s story was posted online after the vet examined the poor kitty and donations started flowing right away.
Not 24 hours later, Valentino was looking much, much better. His appetite improved, his eyes started opening up in a few days and Valentino was well ahead on his recovery schedule.

The world is a tough place. In order to make a change, we need to be the change first, and it’s a good thing that many people live by this rule. Valentino was saved thanks to Elaine Seamans’ efforts – she is a perfect example that we all need to land a helping hand sometimes.
