According to Japanese doctors, the risk of the flu in children can be cut down in half if they take vitamin D supplements. Vitamin D is a naturally produced vitamin in the human body which is synthesized through sunlight exposure. It’s actually a very important nutrient and is far more effective in the treatment of certain diseases than any kind of medication.
In one Japanese study, scientists concluded that 1 in 15 children gets the flu after taking vitamin D, while 1 in 5 came down with the flu after taking a placebo. Seeing this, the scientists concluded that the vitamin is far more effective against the viral infection than most prescription drugs. According to Dr. Mitsuyoshi Urashima, the vitamin can cut down the risk of the flu by a third. However, you won’t hear about it in the media.
Dr. Damien Downing says
That it’s all because governments love epidemics – in this way, they can impose their free will. Instead of telling his patients to get prescription drugs, Dr. Downing recommends vitamin D supplements instead. There are many doctors in the USA and Canada that prescribe about 50 000 IU of vitamin D as treatment for numerous chronic ailments, but still, prescription drugs prevail.
Dr. John Carnell suggest
Taking a 50 000 dose of vitamin D 3 days in a row at the first sign of a cold. If you’re suffering from an infection, your body simply needs more vitamin D. Vitamin D is a natural antibiotic and can defeat different kinds of germs including bacteria and viruses.
Our bodies often lack vitamin D in the winter, especially in countries far away from the equator. The vitamin is a modulator for the immune system and prevents the release of cytokines and macrophage. The vitamin also promotes peptides production in white blood cells and the epithelial cells of our respiratory tract. In this way, it keeps infections at bay.
The Japanese study
We mentioned at the beginning included 354 children and was found to protect the children from both influenza type A and B. The trial was double-blind and randomized, while being in full control of the scientists. It was conducted at the Jikei University in Tokyo. The children in the trial that were given 1200 IU of vitamin D for 3 months came down with the flu just as often as those that took a placebo during the first 30 days.
By the second month, the advantages of vitamin D were pretty clear. The results showed that vitamin D reduces the risk of flu by 50% instead of the 8% reduction from prescription drugs such as oseltamivir and zanamivir.
Anti-viral drugs often work better than antibiotics in cases of the flu. However, they’re also toxic and expensive, while vitamin D has numerous benefits for our health as well. The vitamin can prevent reduced bone density and fractures, and some scientists also believe that it can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other serious diseases. The vitamin effectively activates our immune system and boosts the production of proteins such as cathelicidin and defensin, which can disable viruses.
The dose and levels of vitamin D are also critical
Healthy levels and dose of vitamin D levels are critical if you want to keep your health in check. Doctors consider 70-90ng/ml. levels as healthy, but only 5% of Americans get them. In general, it’s recommended getting 5000 IU of vitamin D a day.
Besides treating viral infections such as influenza, the mechanism in action of vitamin D can also treat other seasonal infections. Get more of the vitamin in your body and we’re sure you’ll improve your immune system and overall health.
